Breaking the Cycle of Analysis Paralysis

When I led global supply chain strategy at Amazon, I experienced how complex supply chain decisions were. All decisions had a complex set of tradeoffs that there was no way to grasp. For example, when choosing a manufacturing location there were thousands of considerations and critical tradeoffs such as labor costs, shipping costs, lead times, sustainability goals, and risk tolerances. It was impossible to consider all of the factors, data, and tradeoffs resulting in millions of combinations.

Instead, we would consider about 100 different scenarios due to time and resource constraints. Multiple analysts would work full-time for months developing the framework, gathering the data, and running the scenarios. We would then take our recommendation to executive leadership, who would ask us to consider another factor that our analysis didn’t cover. We then would spend months rerunning the analysis. Inevitably, at some point the global landscape would change (e.g., tariffs, labor rates, shipping costs) which would invalidate our analysis. We would then need to spend months rerunning the analysis again due to the new parameters.

This cycle continued and it slowed decisions down to months or even years because any analysis took months, and then by the time the analysis was complete, it was stale.

Supply Chain Complete breaks companies out of this cycle of analysis paralysis. Our patent-pending platform runs complete supply chain analyses in seconds. This is powered by our patent-pending AI+ technology which uses AI, proprietary heuristics, custom algorithms, and advanced data models. Now it takes just one click to run millions of scenarios rather than spending months developing the framework, gathering the data, and manually running the scenarios. And whereas an analyst could run 100 scenarios in a month, Supply Chain Complete runs over 2,500,000 scenarios in 45 seconds.

Let’s replay the scenario above with Supply Chain Complete. One analyst onboards the entire supply chain onto the platform in under one week. They then optimize the supply chain in 45 seconds and showing them how to reduce costs by a groundbreaking 20-35%. Now the analyst can reconfigure the supply chain in over 396 billion ways based on priorities and tradeoffs including lead time, sustainability goals, risk tolerances, and tariffs.

The analyst collects the 3 most promising supply chain designs to present to executive leadership. For example:

  1. Cost minimizing (reduces costs by 20%)
  2. Cost minimizing but no manufacturing in India (reduce costs by 17%)
  3. Cost minimizing but no manufacturing in India and lead time under 40 days (reduces costs by 15%)

Inevitably, when the analyst is about to walk into the executive leadership meeting, the tariffs change. The analyst reruns the full analysis in seconds. Now, during the meeting when executive leadership asks, “What about this option” (e.g., no manufacturing in Vietnam), the analyst can run the scenario live on their laptop and generate an answer in seconds.

With Supply Chain Complete, decisions are made in minutes, not months or more. And there are very few resources required. Everyone focuses on evaluating the scenarios, not gathering the data and running the scenarios. We save companies thousands of hours while saving them 20-35% in their supply chains. This is truly the future of supply chains.
